FROM THE:  American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP)

AACAP LogoAs the details surrounding Oregon’s Umpqua Community College unfold, our thoughts are with the families and individuals affected by the horrific and tragic act.  As an association dedicated to protecting the health of children everywhere, we are deeply saddened by yet another senseless act of violence.

In hopes of helping families cope with such events the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) compiled the following resources:

These resources are a starting point in addressing the trauma that affects victims of violence and are not intended to serve as a substitute for psychiatric treatment or counseling. Our resources were created for those coping with loss and grief, and for those seeking to foster a dialogue with their children about regional and national news events.
Representing over 8,800 child and adolescent psychiatrists nationwide, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) is the leading authority on children’s mental health.  AACAP Members actively research, diagnose and treat psychiatric disorders affecting children, adolescents and their families.
