The unbearable conditions forced some schools outside Washington, like the Sprawling Fairfax and Arlington County school in Virginia, to close. The schools will be conducting online classes.Â
The low temperatures and icy roads could make traveling unsafe.Â
North Carolina’s Gov. Roy Cooper advised the citizens to buy and stock enough food in their homes on Thursday. He went on to say that 114 soldiers issued with equipment like ambulances, trucks, and high clearance vehicles will help with the situation. Â
The soldiers will be clearing the roads off the ice and fixing power line-related issues.Â
Although the state warned people against traveling, the state’s transport department will keep those who have to use the south Carolinas roads safe. It is hard for truck drivers on schedules to pause their travel.Â
