One month ago, the US president, Joe Biden, promised to secure at least 500 million free tests. Finally, the US government has announced offering free tests to all Americans. It comes amid the surge in new infections of the Omicron variant.
In this new move, the US government has planned to secure 1 billion tests which are double the original plan.
Once you have received the test, the results are sent via the official US email. You will get the results within between 7 & 12 days. The good news is also to people who have private medical insurance as they can submit reimbursements for the tests bought at various pharmacies.
However, as this move comes, there has been a drop in the number of new Covid-19 cases. The city of New Jersey has recorded a drop of 17.6% in the past week, New York City 17%, Washington 25%, and Vermont 22%.
Irrespective of the drop in cases in some cities, there is still a rise in hospitalization all over the country.
A report by New York Times shows that count of Americans hospitalized has increased by 54% just this first month of the year with 157,000 new cases. Daily death cases have also risen by 54%, and 1,900 cases in the past two weeks of January.
The whole country has experienced a rise in the new cases even as the government announces free tests. The US recorded 717,814 new Coronavirus cases on 18th Jan 2022, with 1,122 deaths reported by John Hopkins COVID-19 tracker.Â
HHS Protect Public Data Hub reports indicate that beds in Oklahoma City hospitals are full, and the hospitals are overwhelmed due to the Omicron variant. With the new tests by the government, more cases will be noticed early.
