Why Is My Stomach Beating Like A Heart? Learn About Pulse In Your Stomach

The human body has several systems that work together to ensure a smooth life. However, these systems’ design is to work in a specific way, and whenever any of the changes or works differently, we get scared. The circulatory system is one of them.

The question “why is my stomach beating like a heart?” is common, and many people ask while scared.

This article will give you the main reason for this situation and why it should not worry you. The article will also discuss other related issues. Before we get any further,

Why is My Stomach Beating like a Heart?

You are feeling a pulse from the abdominal aorta. The aorta, the main artery, carries blood away from your heart to the rest of the body. Some of those parts include the chest and abdomen. As a result, you are more likely to feel this pulse in the abdomen.

Feeling your stomach beating like a heart should not be a major concern as it happens from time to time.

Causes Of Feeling A Pulse In Your Stomach

The following factors will make you feel a beat in your stomach.

1. Eating

Once you eat, your body reacts by working more on the food for digestion and absorption of nutrients and energy.

This is action by pumping more blood into the stomach and the small intestines via the aorta. In this case, once you eat, blood pressure on the abdominal aorta increases, and you may feel it.

2. Pregnancy

This case does not happen to all women. It also happens from time to time. During pregnancy, the amount of blood in circulation in the body increases.

This means that blood pressure at various sections will be higher. One of those areas is in the abdominal aorta, and you will feel.

3. Laying Down

When you lie down with your knees up, you will feel a beat in your stomach. It happens from time to time, and it is normal. Laying in this position contracts your stomach hence more contact to the aorta to feel the pulse.

As A Result Of Aneurysm

In some cases, feeling a pulse on your stomach can result from an aneurysm, which is a condition where there is an enlargement of one part of the aorta.

This enlargement mainly occurs at the bottom hence in the stomach. The condition develops over time hence making the area expand.

For this case, accompanying symptoms include;

  • Back pain
  • Pain in the abdomen
  • Pulse on the bellybutton

Conclusion

Your stomach beating like a heart from time to time is a normal condition that should not alarm you. You should expect this after eating, during pregnancy, or when you lay with your knees raised. In rare cases, an aneurysm will be the cause.
