Russia has attacked Ukraine relentlessly since they launched the initial attack. Their attack on Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital city, was considered a significant move by the Russians and a blow to the defending country.Â
Ukraine also suffered from the attack of their nuclear power plant, although they managed to extinguish the fire from the attack. People from all over have joined in condemning these attacks by the Russian government led by Putin, the president.Â
The attack on the Zaporizhzhia power plant facility caused a fire and widespread fears of a disaster similar to the 1986 Chernobyl accident, which occurred about 65 miles north of the Ukrainian capital.” Ukraine’s Foreign Affairs minister tweeted, “If it blows up, it will be ten times larger than Chornobyl!”
Nuclear power plants are dangerous to the environment when radiation leaks. However, there were no signs of radiation leaking. A senior “defense department official” from the United States made the reports.Â
“Nuclear power plants are not designed to withstand military attacks, underscoring the recklessness of the assault,” he added.Â
Radiation from Chernobyl led to the deaths of many civilians. It forced people to evacuate from the area, which has not healed to date.Â
According to the Us officials, the Russians wanted to get hold of the power plant to control the Ukrainian population. Access and control of the power plants mean that the Russian military will allow them to distribute power or withhold it as a punishment to the people in Ukraine.Â
Sergiy Kyslytsya, Ukraine’s U.N delegate, accused Russia of “committing an act of nuclear terrorism.” The delegate was charged at an “emergency security meeting” held after the attack on the power plant.Â
According to the delegate, he accused a Russian diplomat of lying. The Russian counterpart claimed that a “Ukrainian sabotage group started the power plant fire.”Â
People have been supporting Ukrainian people through donations and creating awareness. Celebrities and other social media influencers are leading the donation campaigns.Â
