A Woman’s Two-Year Mummified Body Found In Italy

Italian law enforcers made a shocking discovery when they found a body of a dead woman believed to be dead for more than two years. The police found her in her home in pristine. They reported that she had no relatives.

The police discovered Bernetta’s remains as they were conducting a check-up on the house because they feared that the dangerous winds in Lombardy posed a risk of felling the trees in her garden.

“What happened to Marinella Beretta in Como, the forgotten loneliness, hurts our consciences,” Elena Bonetti. “We have a duty, as a community that wants to remain united, to remember her life… no one must be left alone.”

According to a report by ISTAT, about 40% of older people in Italy aged seventy-five years and older live alone. Most of them neither have friends nor relatives who can help them if they need help.

A magazine in Italy painted her as a lonely person. “Many of us still have memories of the chaotic, branched families of peasant Italy. Instead, the modern family is reduced. People die alone. And we live alone, which is almost worse,” an editor for a magazine in Italy said.

Beretta’s neighbors assumed that she shifted from the country after not seeing her since September 2019 following the covid 19 pandemic. The police have ruled out foul play because they never found anything to link it to foul play at the crime scene.

“The mystery of Marinella’s invisible life behind the closed gate of her cottage teaches us a terrible lesson,” an Italian magazine wrote. “The real sadness is not that the others did not notice her death. It is that they did not realize Marinella Beretta was alive.”

Lombardy’s council plans to cater for her funeral and burial expenses. The incident calls for better care of the old in the country. According to the media reports, her neighbors did not see her for about two and half years.
