What would your friends think of you when they visited you and saw insects and bugs crawl on the floor and walls?

It will show that you are unhygienic; some will term you dirty. You wouldn’t want this, would you?

Insects and bugs are attracted to different things. Some are attracted to lights, while others like dark places. So, what effect does light have on silverfish?

Do LED Lights Attract Silverfish?

No, LED lights do not attract silverfish. They like hiding in dark and moist places. Using lights helps to get rid of them in bathrooms and the kitchen. Silverfish are nocturnal insects; they only emerge during the night searching for food.

Silverfish are irritating bugs that can be found in our homes. You have probably seen one or two of these irritating creatures around your home.

Despite being small, they can destroy books and papers in the house. Silverfish can digest cellulose, making it possible for them to eat paper.

What Is A Silverfish?

When most people hear of the name, they quickly conclude that it is a type of fish. Well, that is not the case.

Silverfish are insects that like to hide in damp, dark cracks of a house. The name, however, comes from their color. They are silver or grey and covered with tiny glistening scales.

How Do You Get Rid of These Irritating Insects?

Here are a few ways to make your home silverfish free.

1. Adequate lighting in your house:

Although silverfish like damp places like bathrooms, they can be found in other rooms that are dark and have cracks. Using bulbs to light your room is an easy way of dealing with them.

For your bathroom, you can use led lights. No matter how dim the led lights are, they will do the job.

2. Using insecticides:

When sprayed, they will kill all bugs and insects in a matter of seconds. You can spray insecticides either during the day or the night. However, some of these are associated with complications like nausea and headaches.

It is advisable to spray insecticides when no people are around, and the food is well stored. This helps prevent food poisoning.

3. Drying off damp/wet areas:

Kitchens, laundry, and bathrooms are prone to dampness. Water easily spills in these rooms. Sometimes leaks from taps cause dampness, and other times mops are not well dried.

Fixing leaking taps, drying wet areas, and drying mats will help get rid of silverfish and other bugs in your home.

4. Seal up cracks:

Bugs are tiny and hide in cracks because people cannot get to them. Houses develop cracks from time to time either because of earthquakes or expansion.

When you spot cracks in your home, you should engage an expert and have them seal the cracks. Bugs like silverfish will have nowhere to hide. This will have solved your problem.

Conclusion

LED lights enhance the beauty of a room, especially in the bathroom. Using such lights can make your home look amazing and get rid of nocturnal insects and bugs. Silverfish have do not cause harm to people, but they are irritating. No one likes to see crawling bugs crawl in their homes.
